On her turning around to see who it was, HEAL and POPLE, who lodges with her came out, the latter subsequently following her and assaulting her with his crutch, striking her across the arm and abdomen with it, whereby she had been obliged to place herself under medical care. The defence was that no blow was struck, but that TINCKNELL injured herself by falling over a scarper. The bench dismissed the summons against TINCKNELL, and fined POPLE 40s and costs, designating his conduct as most cowardly, Seventeen summonses were issued against parents for non-compliance with the requirements of the Elementary Education Act.
