Hi
Have been looking at the1841 census and believe that I have found the =
family of my great great grandfather, Joseph Parker b. 1820. Family =
records indicated his father's name was William Parker and that they =
were from Wedmore. I have found the following on the 1841 census:
Parish: Bleadon, County: Somerset, Place: Shiplet
William Parker age 55 Blacksmith
Mary age 55
Joseph age 20 Ag Lab
Samuel age 18
Eliza age 16
Emma age 13
Hannah age 7
My 2 great grandfather, Joseph, named his oldest son William, then =
Samuel also two daughters, one named Mary & the other Emma so looks like =
a real possiblity that this is the correct family. However, I don't =
know if Bleadon is near Wedmore? Or where the place name Shiplet might =
be. Could someone help me with this?
Is there anyone else researching this family? Would be glad to share =
information.
Thanks

Hi list,
I found my Joseph Parker's family in the 1841 census living in the =
Bleadon parish. Joseph was living with his parents, William & Mary as =
well as 4 siblings in the 1841 census. I have also checked the England =
& Wales Free BMD index 1837-1983 for an early marriage for Joseph =
between 1841 and 1847 when he emigrated to Canada with a daughter, Sarah =
A. Parker who would have been about 3 or 4 years old. All census =
records for Sarah A. Parker list her birth as being in England and that =
she was Joseph's daughter. I was not able to find any marriage record. =
=20
I am wondering if there is a church in the Bleadon parish? Is there =
somewhere that I could check for marriage records from that area? It =
would be great to find a marriage for William Parker b. abt 1786 & Mary? =
b. abt 1786 also. The 1841 census lists William as a blacksmith and =
that is all I have about him. I did find a death for a William Parker =
b. abt 1783, who died in Shepton Mallet in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of =
1874 at age 91 but do not know if it is the same William. =20
Any suggestions for where I should look for Bleadon baptismal & marriage =
records would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Sandi,
The Parish Records for Bleadon are at Somerset Record Office.
The Weston-super-Mare FHS has transcribed some of them and they are =
available either in Booklet form or on CD - see www.wsmfhs.org.uk for =
more details. You will find baptisms of some of William & Mary's =
children and other PARKER entries. The burial of a William PARKER is =
also mentioned.
William & Mary PARKER are still in Bleadon on the 1851 census and Mary's =
birthplace is given as Shipham so it might be profitable to look there =
for their marriage.
I looked on the CD of North Somerset Marriages produced by the Bristol & =
Avon FHS see www.bafhs.org.uk for more details and found this marriage
William PARKER of Bleadon married Mary TRIPP 28 Dec 1808 at St Leonard's =
Church, Shipham.
Best wishes
Pat
