Happy New Year--

I apologize for disappearing overboard at the end of the season, but rest
assured that the Sloop is not frozen into Jackson Park Harbor. She did
make it down the river (thanks to Gordon and Harry and Al and their
crews--I had to work) and is snuggled down beneath a snow-covered tarp
until spring.

But if the snow makes you summer-sick for sailing, there is a show at Navy
Pier this Thursday through Sunday (January 30th -- Feb 2nd). The Strictly
Sail show has sailboats and gear to look at in addition to the usual
trinkets that you find at such shows. The BEST part of the show, however,
is the seminar series. You can learn about racing, cooking aboard,
handling boats in heavy weather, navigation, or be an armchair sailor and
hear people's stories of their adventure. You can find information about
the show at

http://www.sailamerica.com/STRICTLYSAIL-Chicago.cfm

I'll be going at least one weekday and most likely on Sunday, too, if
anyone wants to meet me there.

I'm excited about this year. The Sloop will be celebrating her 30th
birthday/season, my truck, Tonka, will be ten years old (and still running
great) and I'll be turning 40 in March. The first celebration will be
mine--I'm having a multimedia installation/show on March 8th here in Hyde
Park. More about that in another e-mail.

Hope you all are well. Let me know if you want to hook up for Strictly Sail.
